Quantitative Analysis of Hwmp Based Wireless Mesh Networks Using Ns-3

چکیده
Wireless mesh network deployments are considered as a cost-effective means to provide broadband connectivity to a large population. With an increase in network usage, the network planners need to enhance the existing mesh network to provide additional capacity. This work analyzes the HWMP protocol’s performance with varied grid size, packet size, and number of interfaces / radios. It is observed that HWMP protocol perform well with more number of radios and larger grid size as long as the packet size is limited to 2K bytes. The performance degrades drastically beyond 2K bytes of packets and is not suitable to operate with larger packet sizes.

SHWMP: A Secure Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol for IEEE 802.11s Wireless Mesh Networks
In recent years, mesh networking has emerged as a key technology for the last mile Internet access and found to be an important area of research and deployment. The current draft standard of IEEE 802.11s has defined routing for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) in layer-2 and is termed as Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP). However, security in routing or forwarding functionality is not specified...

In this paper we propose a dynamic update of the HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) proactive tree by changing dynamically the path request (PREQ) transmission interval, instead of a periodic fixed value as defined in the IEEE 802.11s draft. Indeed, we adapt dynamically the value of the PREQ transmission interval according to the wireless environment characteristics and to the amount of traff...
متن کاملA Security Analysis of the 802.11s Wireless Mesh Network Routing Protocol and Its Secure Routing Protocols
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) can act as a scalable backbone by connecting separate sensor networks and even by connecting WMNs to a wired network. The Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP) is the default routing protocol for the 802.11s WMN. The routing protocol is one of the most important parts of the network, and it requires protection, especially in the wireless environment. The existing se...

Wireless mesh networks are multi hop wireless networks with high performance requirements. To enhance the performance, a large number of routing protocols have been proposed focussing on various link properties. The metrics designed to capture various link properties make an important assumption that nodes cooperate in network operations. On the other hand, the nodes are spread over larger area ...
متن کاملNon-root-based Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol for Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are wireless networks that are composed of mesh routers and mesh clients. Mesh routers have minimal mobility and form the backbone of WMNs. IEEE 802.11s-based WMNs have a default routing protocol, namely, a hybrid wireless mesh protocol (HWMP). In tree-based proactive mode, HWMP is completely centralized and constrained by the root node, which causes a bottleneck a...
